Past Related Grants

In October of 2020, we donated $2,990 to Weston High School to purchase culturally diverse books for use in all four grades. In the words of Christine Cincotta, the English Curriculum Instructional Leader for grades 6-12 at that time, the grant will “guarantee that every single student at WHS will read at least one full-length text that addresses inclusion and representation.”

In January of 2021, we donated $1,000 to Lachat Farm toward the purchase of books as part of their Martin Luther King Day of Service. The book – “A Ride to Remember” – is a children’s book that tells co-author Sharon Langley’s personal story of being the first child of color to go on an amusement park ride at 11 months old in Maryland – the same day Martin Luther King gave his I Have a Dream speech in Washington, DC. The books were purchased from a black-owned bookstore in New Haven and were given to all families who participated in the Day of Service. Copies of the book have also been given to every teacher at Hurlbutt and WIS to share with their students.
